In short
Gerrani Downloader runs on your PC. We do not run servers that see your downloads, we have no accounts, and we do not collect, sell or share personal data.
The browser extension
- Download links. When you start a download or choose "Download with Gerrani Downloader", the extension sends the link, the page it came from and the file name to the Gerrani Downloader app on the same PC, through the browser's native messaging. Nothing is sent over the internet to us.
- Site sign-in (optional). If "Send site sign-in" is on, the extension also sends the cookies for that one website, so downloads that need you to be logged in work. They go only to the app on your PC, are stored encrypted with your Windows account, are used only for that website, and are deleted when the download finishes. Turn this off at any time in the extension's pop-up.
- Settings. Your choices in the pop-up are stored in your browser.
Permissions and why they are needed
- Downloads: to hand browser downloads to the app instead of the browser.
- Context menus: for "Download with Gerrani Downloader".
- Native messaging: to talk to the app on your PC.
- Cookies and access to sites: only for the optional site sign-in described above.
- Scripting and active tab: to show the small progress card on the current page.
- Storage and alarms: to keep your settings and check the app's status.
The app
- Files download directly from the website to your PC.
- The app checks this website for updates. That request contains no personal data beyond what any web request has (such as your IP address, which our host Cloudflare may log briefly).
- Video downloads use the open-source tools yt-dlp and FFmpeg, downloaded from their official sources.
